Archaeology and heritage

A Historic Environment Design Based Assessment (HEDBA) and technical note have been prepared. The findings of the HEDBA and geophysical survey indicate that below ground heritage considerations do not constitute a constraint to the proposed development of the site.

Heritage assets within the site and a 1km study area were considered. There are no designated heritage assets within the site boundary, while the assessment identified seventeen listed buildings and one registered park and garden within the study area, along with a number of non-designated heritage assets. The assessment has identified that the majority of built heritage assets will not be affected by the proposed development.

The setting of Field House, the Orangery and associated non-designated buildings to the south of the site will be impacted by the visual change to the northern approach, however it is concluded the impact is at the lower end of less than substantial harm and that the view should be maintained with appropriate soft landscaping in the proposed development.

The Registered Park and Garden of Hagley Hall was assessed and the associated listed buildings considered as a group. It was found to share limited intervisibility, with the study site being a very small part of the parkland setting. Change through the proposed development will not impact the understanding, key values or significance of any of the designated assets or their settings.
